Katya Romero

Katya Romero is a salvadoran filmmaker, photojournalist and human rights advocate. With a passion of storytelling through community, she wrote and directed "La Ciudad de las Sirenas" (The City of Sirens) (2024) a short film which won the Best Fiction Short Film Award from the El Salvador Film School (ESCINE) at its annual Salvadoran Film Festival in 2024. She has also worked in previous years as a director and photography assistant in salvadoran productions related to human rights, historical memory, feminism, environmental advocacy and social justice.
